The Routeing Strategy

Following a strategic review of technical, economic and environmental constraints, a series of established step-by-step routeing principles, the ‘Holford Rules’ were applied to identify preferred routes to connect seven wind farms to the electricity network via the Meikle Hill substation (comprising Part A of the SWS Project), and to identify locations for the Black Hill Collector substation and Glenglass substation. This routeing process applied to Parts B, C, D1, D2, D3 and D4 of the SWS Project.

The routeing process culminated in the identification of preferred routes and substation locations which were progressed to the EIA stage. The findings of the routeing process are presented in the Ayrshire Wind Farms Grid Connection Project Routeing Strategy Report.
